Early Sunrise is a program that works with families to develop the relationship between parents and their child through engaging activities. Parents are guided to become effective readers to their children, increase reading opportunities in the home, and understand the relationship between reading and their child’s brain development. Parents develop a habit of reading aloud that foster the cognitive and emotional growth of the child. This prepares children for a more successful transition into school, and will help them throughout the rest of their lives. Using art to further develop literacy, families are exposed to different cultures through reading, music, dance, creative arts, and cultural performances. When learning reflects the culture of a child, it fosters a positive understanding of self.

:: What Our Children Need is More of Us
What a child experiences in the first years of life profoundly influences brain development, communication, and how they interact with the world throughout their lives. Parents play the most important role in providing the stimulation their child requires. Often, parents don’t know about the things they can do to foster their child’s growth, like reading to them from an early age and helping them play simple but active games. This connection helps the parents to read their child’s feelings and thoughts so that they are able to support their development. Such activities with the parents help the child to develop social-emotional skills, which drive them to learn to connect with others, resolve conflict, and cope with challenges.
