While we are living in the era of technology, millions of youth around the world still lack access to a computer. Silicon Valley alone eWastes over 50 million pounds of computers and components each year. So we ask, "Why not re-route some of these computers from being eWasted, refurbish them, and give them to children and schools in parts of the world where this technology is scarce?"
Soulciety aims to bridge the digital divide for children living in the provincial areas of the Philippines. With the Bay Area being the tech center of the world, Soulciety’s primary focus is to rescue company computers that’s headed for the landfills and to give them a second life by connecting our kids in the Philippines with technology and the world.
Soulciety collects old employee laptops from Bay Area and Silicon Valley companies. These computers are then refurbished by IT volunteers. Soulciety works directly with schools in the provincial areas of the Philippines. Through our sponsorship with LBC Cargo, computers are then shipped to the schools. These computers are then set up in the school's very first computer lab and will be used by students to learn basic computer education as well as by teachers in preparing their distance-learning education curriculum and materials.
